Burnley FC's match day road closures have sparked concerns from local residents who fear they will be left isolated on match days. The proposals, put forward by Lancashire County Council, would see several roads closed for up to three hours. The council's director of Highways and Transport, Matt Townsend, said that crowd safety was of paramount importance and that a traffic management representative would work with the local community to prioritise safety while maintaining access to properties. However, residents are worried about the impact on their daily lives. Gill Thornton, a resident of Holcombe Drive, said that if Belvedere Road was closed, it would mean they would be unable to leave the street for hours on match days. Alaster Hirst added that closing the road would leave him feeling 'locked in' and 'isolated'. David Morley said that he would be unable to leave his home for emergencies, and Kerry Robinson suggested that the council should provide parking spaces for football fans. The proposed closures include Belvedere Road, Brunshaw Road, Harry Potts Way, Higgin Street, Todmorden Road, and Yorkshire Street. The consultation on the proposals is open until 3 July.
